Canadian artist shares message of strength with North York General Hospital Patients

Thursday, March 3, 2016

Nestled against the Don Valley, North York General Hospital has a secret garden. Beautifully landscaped with mature trees, flowering shrubs, a gazebo and a fountain in the Don River, the healing garden is a place where patients and their families can find solace in the quiet solitude of nature.

The Climber

Now, thanks to the generosity of Dr. Harry Rosen of Montreal, the inspirational sculpture The Climber – Le Grimpeur now resides in the garden, sending a message of encouragement to patients, staff and visitors. The second sculpture in the series, The Climber – Beyond the Summit tells the powerful tale of victory after a long journey, inspiring the community to find their own inner strength to persevere and overcome their challenges.

The Climber is a centre piece in the garden, but its message is also felt inside the hospital. Visible from large bay windows in the cafeteria, clinical areas and patient rooms, The Climber shares his strength all year round.
