For over 20 years NYGH’s Breast Cancer Care Program has defined excellence in breast cancer care through advances in technology and clinical expertise. NYGH has always been ahead of the curve, among the first hospitals in the city to introduce radioactive seed localization and innovative oncoplastic surgery (a hybrid of cancer and plastic surgeries) as standards of care.

NYGH is proud to be the only breast cancer program in Canada with international accreditation by the American College of Surgeons. The rigorous evaluation process reviewed proficiency in the areas of leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement. By achieving this level of accreditation, NYGH has demonstrated a firm commitment to offer our patients every significant advantage in their battle against breast disease.

“What makes our breast program excellent is a relentless effort to obtain the best outcomes and provide a better patient experience,” says Dr. Brian Pinchuk, Surgical Oncologist. “Each patient’s case is discussed by a group of breast cancer experts to ensure the highest quality of evidence-based care. All of our patients are treated as individuals, and their care is timely and seamless.”

Philanthropic support has equipped NYGH’s Breast Cancer Care Program with the tools and environment required to be a leader in the field. Beginning with BMO Financial Group’s founding donation to help create the BMO Breast Diagnostic Centre, and followed by Steinberg family’s leadership support of the Karen, Heather & Lynn Steinberg Breast Services area, philanthropic gifts inspire high-level care.

You can help NYGH bring a new gold standard in care by helping us purchase a new breast biopsy table that will provide higher resolution images, while making the procedure faster and more comfortable for our patients. Our community, including former breast cancer patients, have raised over half of the $448,000 to bring this table to our hospital.
