Shifting the Care Paradigm for Seniors
With the help of our donor community, combined with our vision to enable seniors to live well, NYG has become a leader in the delivery of compassionate care to our senior population, delivered with unmatched kindness.
The next chapter in our journey will be one of our most ambitious projects to date – the building of a new Long-Term Care (LTC) development, which will include one of the largest Long-Term Care homes in the country and house a hub of dedicated health and wellness outpatient services for seniors, located on the NYG campus, right across the street from the hospital.
NYG, in collaboration with the provincial government, will set a new standard in seniors’ living and care within an urban setting.
Why NYGH, Why Now
The need for this new model of care for our growing and aging seniors population has never been greater:
- Canada will see a boom in the seniors’ population in the next few decades
- In Ontario, the number of seniors over 65 is expected to double by 2046
- The area served by NYG is home to the highest proportion of seniors in Toronto and Central Ontario and includes some of Toronto’s fastest-growing neighbourhoods.
NYG is driving a new narrative on how seniors care should be practiced in the community, in the hospital and in a residential setting. With our deep experience in geriatric care, we are national leaders in providing seniors with the care they want and deserve.
The Long-term Care Development will feature:
Providing Specialty Care to Our Broader Community
We are working hard to make our new LTC development more than a home and more of a hub where seniors can access health and wellness services. Along with a new Patient Care Tower being built in the next decade, the new LTC development will form the heart of a Seniors Community Hub, offering North York communities a full range of hospital and community health services, throughout life, close to home.
We aspire to provide the following:
- Specialized geriatric care
- Dementia care behavioral supports
- Seniors’ assessments
- Primary care
- Dialysis and diabetes care
- Chronic disease management
- Fracture prevention
- Parkinson’s program
- Co-located community services Specialties:
- Chiropody, Physio, Audiology, Optometry, Dental, Pharmacy
- Culturally specific geared towards North York demographics
Community Support Will Pave the Way
Funding from the government allows for a solid foundation for a modern care centre for seniors. But to fully realize our vision rooted in best practices for safety, privacy, dignity and wellness, private support is vitally important. Only through philanthropy can we realize our vision of an advanced and integrated seniors’ centre within arm’s reach of the hospital.
