Gastroscopes

These slender, flexible tubes, equipped with advanced imaging technology, allow physicians to directly examine the esophagus, stomach, and upper small intestine in real time. With this level of clarity, conditions such as ulcers, Crohn’s disease, celiac disease can be identified quickly and with confidence.

“With the right gastroscopes, we’re able to make diagnoses on the spot — reducing repeat interventions and giving patients the certainty they need to move forward with effective treatment.”

Dr. James Saperia, Gastroenterologist, OR

One Semi-Rigid Ureteroscope and One Flexible Digital Cysto-Ureteroscope

These state-of-the-art scopes are vital in modern urology, providing a crystal-clear, real-time view of the urinary tract so conditions such as kidney stones and prostate issues can be diagnosed and treated without delay.

“When a patient comes in anxious and in pain, having the right scope ready means we can move quickly to find answers and bring relief. It gives us confidence knowing we can offer the safest, most effective care.”

Youngran Woo, Registered Nurse, OR

Omnicell

With fingerprint access for authorized staff, the Omnicell automated dispensing cabinet offers a secure, efficient system that instantly links to each patient’s profile, supports accurate dosing, minimizes errors, and automatically tracks inventory so medications are always on hand.

“The Omnicell machine gives us confidence that every patient receives the right medication safely and on time. It also frees up our nurses to spend more time where they’re needed most — at the bedside.”

DNA Sequencer for Genetics Lab

Compact yet powerful, North York General’s newest high-throughput DNA sequencer reads and analyzes millions of genetic fragments, enabling rapid, precise detection of mutations, inherited conditions, and disease markers across applications from cancer diagnostics to hereditary screening.

“Having our own sequencers at NYG streamlines our entire process and helps us return test results sometimes in half the time than if we had to send them out for analysis. This means a more accurate diagnosis and personalized care plans that can start right away.”

Dr. Ian Brain, Pathologist, Genetics Lab

Incubator Carestation

The Incubator Carestation provides a quiet, thermally stable environment for newborns who need extra support after birth, from managing temperature instability to receiving phototherapy. Used across both the Postpartum unit and NICU, it offers fragile infants the protection and stability they need to grow stronger before going home.

“These incubators help us keep babies safe, warm, and supported when they need a little extra care. You can really see the relief on parents’ faces.”

Theodora Bureta , Registered Nurse, NICU

Omnibed Carestation (‘The Giraffe’)

The Omnibed Carestation — or “Giraffe” — can shift instantly from an open warmer to a protective incubator, giving care teams the flexibility to respond in emergencies and then provide a stable, nurturing environment for recovery.

“The Omnibed lets us jump in right away for quick access when a baby needs critical intervention, while knowing they are still receiving adequate thermoregulation in the meantime. We can then switch back from overbed mode to keep caring for them in a safe, warm space.”

Candace Pilgrim, Clinical Nurse Educator, NICU

Cardiac Telemetry Device

The telemetry device is a small, wearable pack that continuously monitors a patient’s heart rhythm and sends the data straight to a central station in our cardiac care unit as well as to nurses’ phones. This technology lets patients move freely while ensuring any changes or abnormalities are detected instantly.

“Our patients are able to get up from their beds, move around or use the bathroom without ever losing that constant monitoring. For us as nurses, it means we can keep a close eye on many patients at once and know right away if something changes.”

Angela, Clinical Coordinator, Cardiac Care Unit

Microscope for Eye Surgery

Giving North York General’s surgeons unmatched clarity of the eye’s delicate structures, this state-of-the-art microscope enhances precision and safety during cataract, glaucoma, and corneal procedures while projecting the view in real-time so the full team can anticipate every step.

“It’s incredible to watch a patient sit up after surgery and see clearly for the first time in years. Having access to the best equipment makes those moments possible.”

Loretta Khuu, Clinical Coordinator, OR Ophthalmology
