Building for the future of paediatric care in our community
Demolition has begun! We’re thrilled to share that we have started construction of our new Steinberg Family Paediatric Centre. The families of our community will receive exceptional care in a beautiful space designed with children in mind.
Redefining the corner of Leslie and Sheppard, this architectural gem on the 4th floor of North York General is slated to open at the end of 2020. Loyal donor support of our vision to create a “hospital within a hospital” allows us to finally bring all paediatric services into one integrated space. This will provide the flexibility we need to offer faster access to specialized care for our patients, while helping divert volumes from our busy Emergency Department.
North York General Hospital has one of the busiest acute care community hospital paediatric programs in Ontario, with over 35,000 child and youth patient visits each year. From routine illnesses like ear infections and the flu, to complex, medically fragile and technologically dependent paediatric conditions, our hospital is unparalleled by any other community hospital when it comes to the breadth, scale and scope of our paediatric program. Over the last decade, we have seen a sharp increase in outpatient visits and demand for specialty and sub-specialty clinics, including Complex Care.
To date, donors have pledged over $9.1M to North York General Foundation toward this project. With our community’s help, we will raise the remaining $400K in this campaign to transform our paediatric care environment for patients and families, right in your own backyard.
