It has been a while since I have been in touch, but I wanted to wait for the right time and provide an update on our 2021 so far. Every time I put fingers to keys, something significant happened related to lockdowns, variants, deaths, vaccines or infection rate, and I just couldn’t bring myself to write. This week, we were buoyed by the increase in vaccine availability but still face the reality of the variant spread and the growing, real threat of a third wave.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we are shining a spotlight on some of the inspiring women of North York General Hospital (NYGH). These women are blazing trails and charting new courses for generations of women to come while transforming healthcare that will benefit thousands of patients in our community and beyond. We’re proud to count them among our hospital family and grateful for all they do to champion exceptional care. Learn more about them below. #NorthYorkGeneralStrong.
One has to admit, waking up to freshly fallen snow is magical. And perhaps even more so if you don’t have to contend with a commute, which is the reality for many of us. I am grateful that I have something different to look at in my garden (below) from my kitchen “desk”, as the Foundation staff have returned to remote working to reduce the community footprint in the Hospital.
Winter has come early with several snowfalls in the city these last few weeks. I am also just getting use to the shorter amount of daylight, which is a sign that the holiday season will soon be here, albeit a different sort of holiday for all of us.
Today, the new Steinberg Family Paediatric Centre, gracing the 4th floor of our hospital, opened to patients, families and staff.
In my childhood family home, where my siblings and their families normally gather for weekends such as the one approaching, things won’t be the usual. During Thanksgiving, years ago, someone in my family (p.s. it was me) started the tradition of going around the table and asking each of us to share what they were thankful for.
Like many of you who have loved ones in other cities, provinces or countries, I am consumed with news of COVID-19 second waves not only in Canada but in the UK, where my daughter, her husband and my granddaughter reside.
Dear Friends, With our thoughts turned to the end of summer, many of us are facing issues associated with resuming education, re-entering our places of work, managing the impact on family members as our “bubbles” open up and the looming likelihood of a second wave of COVID-19.
Dear Friends, It’s hard to believe that it is already mid-July, which I have marked with a two-week (happy) quarantine, as my 17-month-old granddaughter arrived from the U.K. with her parents.
