This award recognizes staff who truly stand out, either through their leadership, compassionate care or by being a valuable team member.
Our 50/50 lottery is a great opportunity for staff to participate in something fun and give back to North York General. It’s also an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the dedicated staff that make our hospital such an amazing place. We spoke with Laurita to learn more about her role at North York General.
Q: How did it feel to win the Everyone is a Leader award the week before winning the lottery?
A: While it felt incredible, I believe my whole unit should be applauded because we have handled the pandemic with such courage and were able to exemplify exceptional teamwork in such challenging times. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to also win the lottery! I had bought the ticket only because the money was going to a good cause.
Q: What’s your role at North York General?
A: As a registered nurse on 4West in the orthopaedic surgery department, I provide our patients with the best care possible, ensuring they still have their dignity and honour. I also act as a leader and mentor and try my best to keep spirits high.
Q: Why did you choose to work at North York General?
I initially decided to work at North York General because it allowed me to be close to home and therefore accessible to my kids at all times. Now, after years of working here, I’ve realized that it was the best decision I could have made. Over the years, I have made lifelong friendships with my coworkers, further developed my knowledge as a nurse and have been able to thrive in this family-oriented hospital. In my opinion, I work on the best unit of the hospital. Shout-out to 4West!
