Caring for newborns & their parents
Jennifer Cook Mauricette has a lot on her plate. As a nurse in the Maternal & Newborn Program in the Postpartum Unit for 21 years, she wouldn’t have it any other way.
Jennifer has spent her entire career caring for infants and their families following the birthing process. With kindness and compassion, she eases them through the transition, assessing their needs to ensure both the parents and their babies are ready to go home.
NYGH staff go above & beyond
Jennifer feels a strong pull to working at North York General Hospital (NYGH) and is proud to serve the hospital in the community where she grew up. Since her first day, Jennifer has felt fortunate to be part of the NYGH staff. A few specific moments remain particularly notable to her, including working with her colleagues through the SARS health crisis (and subsequently moving the Postpartum Unit twice), delivering her three daughters at the hospital through midwives, as well as caring for the first COVID positive patient in her unit at the hospital. She’s also proud of winning an Excellence in Nursing Practice award.
What she most admires about the approach of NYGH staff is the drive to do the best they can for the patients and families that the hospital serves. Jennifer says it’s impressive how everyone strives to go above and beyond to provide the very best care possible, even in the most challenging situations.
Fitness, family & nature
An active person, Jennifer loves to hike the gorgeous trail systems in Durham. She’s also an avid gardener and designer of home décor art pieces. Staying fit is important to her as well. Jennifer cycles and works out regularly. Whenever she can, she enjoys spending time with her husband and daughters.
Proud to represent NYGH
Giving back to the hospital that given her so much remains critically important to Jennifer. She’s the face you see in the photo in the hospital’s donation box in the lobby, and she’s thrilled to be featured there, as is represents her commitment to NYGH.
Jennifer is a recent winner of the Staff Lottery and is planning on treating herself to something special, and either saving or investing the remainder of her winnings.
