The Sikh community steps up to help North York General tackle COVID-19

On May 13th, 2020, North York General Hospital (NYGH) was honoured to received an incredibly generous $75,000 gift from Gurdwara Gursikh Sabha Canada, which serves the Sikh community of Greater Toronto Area east. The funds from this donation were used to purchase the remaining oxygen concentrators that NYGH needed.

According to the World Health Organization, 14% of COVID patients require hospitalization and treatment with an oxygen concentrator. The oxygen concentrators we purchased thanks to Gurdwara Gursikh Sabha Canada will provide crucial support for our COVID patients in need. The machines take in air and purify it for use by patients requiring medical oxygen due to low oxygen levels in their blood.

“Thank you for giving the Sikh congregation of Gurdwara Gursikh Sabha Canada the opportunity to do our part during this difficult time by providing funds to NYGH for oxygen concentrators.” — Gobinder S Randhawa, President, Gurdwara Gursikh Sabha Canada

This isn’t this first time Gurdwara Gursikh Sabha Canada has supported NYGH. Not only did they give this generous gift, they also donated critically important personal protective equipment for NYGH’s frontline staff. As well, on May 31st of last year, NYGH staff attended an event hosted by Gurdwara Gursikh Sabha Canada to celebrate the 550th birthday of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. At the event, they gave $30,000 to six different hospitals, including NYGH.

We would like to express our sincerest gratitude to the Sikh congregation of Gurdwara Gursikh Sabha Canada for their tremendous support. The funds they provided will make a world of difference to COVID patients in need.
