A Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Madison Rallies For North York General

Meet Madison, North York General Hospital’s littlest philanthropist! At just three years old, Madison laced up her sneakers for this year’s Rally in the Ravine Kids Fun Run, rallying not only her own excitement but also her four closest friends to join her in the cause.

Altogether, Madison raised an incredible $1,300 to support NYGH, a feat that left everyone inspired.

But perhaps the most remarkable part of Madison’s story is the journey she’s taken since earning her medal. She wears it proudly everywhere — around the house, to a baby shower and even to school — where she shyly but proudly shared with her classmates the importance of raising money for good causes. And she’s continuing her mission, asking for her pals to make donations to NYGH this year in lieu of birthday gifts!

In the following interview – conducted in honour of National Philanthropy Day – Madison (with a little help from Mom) gives us a glimpse into the heart of a young philanthropist who, medal around her neck, is already learning the value of giving back.

Madison, we heard about the incredible work you did to raise money for the hospital this year! How did it feel to get your medal after the Rally in the Ravine race?

I felt proud when I received my medal after running Rally in the Ravine.

We heard you told your friends at school about your Rally in the Ravine medal! What did you say to them?

I wore my medal to school on Monday after Rally in the Ravine. I got to share what my medal represents and that I had earned it when I raised money for North York General Hospital and ran in Rally in the Ravine. Our class then had a discussion about the importance of raising money for causes like NYGH.

You raised a lot of money for Rally in the Ravine! How did you ask people to help you and your friends with the run?

I called my grandparents on Facetime to ask them for a donation and then I asked my friends to donate to my fundraising page and to join my team.

What would you tell other kids if they wanted to do something fun like the Rally in the Ravine for a good cause? What advice would you give them?

I think it’s important to find a cause that you care about and then find a way to give back. It’s lots of fun!

Why do you like wearing your Rally in the Ravine medal, and what makes you feel proud about it?

Rocky is cute and represents the hospital that took care of me when I was sick this summer.

Do you think this is something you’d like to do again? What are some other great causes you think you’d like to support in the future?

Yes! I will do it again next year! NYGH is my main cause that I’m going to support and I asked my friends to make a donation in lieu of birthday gifts for my birthday this year.
