She understands how important planned giving is. Being able to eliminate barriers, receive treatment nearby, when you need it, is critical for people of all ages.
“I have always recognized the impactful role NYGH has played on families in our community. I understand how important planned giving is to supporting the hospital. That’s why I have chosen to give in life and in legacy.”
The generous act of leaving a gift in your will means serving your community for generations to come, recognizes Sally.
Leaving a legacy to support future generations
Will bequests, gifts of securities and insurance gifts are thoughtful ways for individuals like Sally to play a larger role in helping NYGH continue to provide excellent care.
“There is so much to consider when planning your legacy gift,” she says. “I am proud of my children, and their care and well-being are my top priority. I have a talented and disciplined son, who is in Cirque du Soleil Las Vegas, and two daughters who are shaping the minds of children in the education field in Canada and the United Kingdom (UK). I felt it important to support family but to also support NYGH as well as the other causes I care so deeply about,” she explained.
Paying tribute to NYGH
Sally’s journey with NYGH has included serving as a Foundation board member, chairing the Festival of Lights fundraising project for three years, and as a patient herself – where the late Dr. Leslie Watt, Department of Obstetrics, oversaw the birth of her three children at NYGH’s nationally recognized Birthing Centre.
She remembers the extraordinary Dr. Watt for his nurturing ways, and the wonderful care he provided for her family.
In addition, Dr. Stephen Comay, the late Dr. James Fallis, Dr. Pete Snelling and Canon Arthur Chote (one of the key members of NYGH’s Chaplaincy Department) have all made a tremendous impact on Sally’s life.
She also recognizes Dr. Jim Rumble, NYGH orthopaedic surgeon who once repaired her son’s ankle after a spill on a trampoline – offering a kind of care and expertise that is immeasurable.
During these past 50-something years, Sally has made long lasting memories of friends, medical staff, patients and her own loved ones, that have all benefited from NYGH – and she hopes her contribution will inspire others to celebrate and honour their community, if they have the means to do so.
“It is because of these memories, and my gratitude towards these doctors that have inspired me to support NYGH,” she said.
“They have made an imprint on my life that I can never forget.”
