Supporting youth for over 21 years, he stresses the importance of accessible programs and services, support from loved ones and the ability to empower his patients.

“Our diverse and incredible youth population continue to inspire me each day. At NYGH, we are providing a unique and beautiful setting for youth and their families, to heal and begin recovering. We are ensuring we’re breaking barriers and providing our most vulnerable populations with access to the critical supports when they need it,” he explained.

Thanks to our generous donors and community, Phillips House, home to Maddie’s Healing Garden, is a redeveloped 15,000-square foot Georgian-style  estate home, located up the street from the hospital general site, reimagines how the hospital treats young patients facing a number of mental health conditions.  Through this philanthropy, the building and landscape have been transformed into a beautiful, serene space to promote healing and well-being. A priority of the redesign was to create a warm, home-like setting to help alleviate some of the stress and stigma patients face when accessing mental health care services. Untreated mental health conditions can result in lifelong negative health effects and access to care at an early stage is a predictor of improved long-term health outcomes.

Adam is so grateful to support young people across our community, and says he continues to learn from his patients each day.

“I have an opportunity to support patients and their families during challenging times. To see the youth that we work learn tools to manage challenges and develop into individuals who are self-reliant is wonderful. As a counsellor, I also learn from my patients as well – about human nature, the capacity to overcome difficulty, and the ability to forgive.”
