Between managing your own health, and the health of your family (including aging loved ones), chances are someone you know will need an MRI (or Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scan in their lifetime. Every single department in North York General relies on MRIs to diagnose, assess, and determine the next steps towards positive health outcomes.
Our patients and their families deserve advanced imaging but our current MRIs are aging and the technology is not ideal for some diseases. This means that patients who require more advanced screening have to travel outside of our community for care.

“As a physician, it means so much for my patients to have access to faster diagnosis and treatment options when they need it most.”
The 1.5T MRI – the gold standard of medical imaging – has double the strength of our current MRIs. It provides extremely clear and vivid images – ideal for seeing the minute details that are crucial to diagnosis. Shorter scan times help maximize patient comfort, improving efficiency without compromising quality.
The 1.5T MRI will help our team care for patients throughout North York General, including: improving the ability to assess and plan treatments for orthopaedic conditions; better diagnosing life-changing illnesses such as breast, colorectal and prostate cancer; pinpointing minor (but critical) neurological changes in patients with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s Disease, and Multiple Sclerosis; and more accurately seeing damaged cardiac tissue, so that we can more accurately diagnose coronary heart disease and intervene.
NYGH treats over 420,000 patients each year. Over 75,000 of those patients will rely on MRIs to diagnose and treat life-changing diseases. We are raising $6 million to ensure patients and families have access to earlier diagnosis, treatment, and more positive health outcomes. With your help, we will bring a new 1.5T MRI to NYGH, giving patients in our community access to this incredible technology – right here in their own backyards.
