It’s not just a bed. It’s a place our patients experience diagnosis of critical illness, recovery, the birth of their new baby, and everything in between. Beds are the epicentre of care, and a vital part of treatment. Every single patient admitted requires a bed. And every department within our hospital has unique bed requirements to care for their patients. While the government funds many of our hospital’s day-to-day operations, it often does not cover the cost of new and replacement equipment, including beds. We need your help to fill these urgent needs.
We’ve passed the halfway mark of our $853,000 goal to replace NYGH’s hospital beds. Donate today to help us get to the finish line!
NYGH admits over 420,000 patients each year to 426 beds throughout all areas of our hospital. Beds are critical pieces of equipment, serving as a means of care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. But at 10, 15 and even 20 years old, our beds are approaching the point at which they must be replaced with advanced technology and surfaces that enhance patient care and safety.
Think about your own bed at home. Now imagine the importance of a hospital bed to a sick patient. Many manufacturers suggest we replace our own mattresses every 10 years — and we only use those for part of the day. Now imagine a single bed at NYGH, and how many patients use it throughout the year – where it most often serves as a means of care 24 hours a day, every day.
Your support will help NYGH replace our beds with the latest technology and significantly enhance the quality of care for our patients.
