North York General is transforming the care experience for our seniors.
Ontario will see a boom in the seniors’ population in the next few decades, with the number of Ontarians over 65 expected to double by 2046. North York is home to the highest proportion of seniors in Central Ontario and is one of the fastest growing regions in Toronto. We must prepare for the future as our community continues to grow and age.
Rendering of NGH’s new Long-Term Care Development
The new Seniors’ Care Centre will leap-frog existing standards and create a new model of care, powered by the philanthropic community.
Imagine a new seniors’ residential community on the same site as the leading community hospital in Canada, with medical services on the premises. Picture a home-like environment with 100% private rooms (only home in Ontario offering this), green space, and programs that foster a compassionate experience for our loved ones. The new home will be built around a small home living concept, allowing residents to be part of a home, a neighbourhood, and a broader community.
Culturally oriented programs and amenities will ensure seniors from our diverse communities feel welcome and included.
Care within the facility will be non-institutional and enable all residents to have a meaningful day-to-day life. Staffing will be redefined to empower teams to create nurturing and supportive relationships with residents.
Our success in seniors’ care speaks volumes. North York General has a track record of offering exceptional care for older adults — before and during the pandemic. We know and excel at seniors’ care, and the new seniors’ home will continue our legacy of success.
Funding from the government allows for a solid foundation for a modern care centre for seniors. But, in order to fully realize our vision, private support is vitally important. Only through philanthropy can we realize our vision of an integrated seniors’ centre within arm’s reach of the hospital.
Join us as we embark on an ambitious journey to build the future of seniors’ care in our community. Philanthropy is recognized as the driver of many paradigm shifts in health care. The vision for a new seniors’ care centre will be realized through the valiant efforts of community champions.
