Our Birthing Centre – A Space for All Families

At NYGH, we provide exceptional care and unmatched kindness at every step of our patients’ health journey, from birth and throughout life.

In fact, we’ve been there for over 300,000 births since we opened, supporting more families along their birthing journey than any other community hospital in Ontario. But it’s time for our aging Labour & Delivery and Post-Partum units to go through their own rebirth.

In the last 50 years, our expertise, capacity and breadth of service have increased profoundly. But our Post-Partum Unit has not received any substantial updates since the hospital opened in 1968, and our Labour & Delivery Unit has aged since its last renovation almost 20 years ago. The time is now to upgrade our facilities to match our outstanding quality of care.

We are embarking on an ambitious project to transform our aging Labour & Delivery and Post-Partum Units into a modern, integrated Birthing Centre for patients and families of countless cultures and traditions. It will include renovated rooms, the latest technology for baby and patient monitoring, a new lounge for families and support people, and a modern space for training the next generation of health care providers.
