Area of Greatest Needs
Your Gift, Without Limits
Directing your gift to the Area of Greatest Need will enable North York General to respond quickly to urgent funding priorities and invest in new and replacement equipment. This flexibility empowers hospital leadership to allocate resources where they’re needed most, ensuring patient care continues to improve as community needs evolve.
Equipment Priorities
Incubator – three needed at $90K each
An incubator is a vital piece of equipment in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), providing a carefully regulated thermal environment for medically fragile newborns. It helps maintain the infant’s body temperature while supporting close clinical monitoring and interventions. Designed with both medical care and family connection in mind, the incubator also allows for easy access so parents can remain close, fostering essential bonding during these critical early days.
Infant Bassinets – four needed at $7.2K each
Infant bassinets provide a safe, comfortable sleeping surface that mirrors what newborns will experience at home, supporting a smooth transition during their earliest days. Used in both the Birthing Centre’s Post-Partum Unit and the Steinberg Paediatric Centre for infants returning to the hospital for care, these bassinets support rest and recovery while allowing families to remain close and engaged in their baby’s care.
Digital Specimen Radiography System — one needed at $192K
The Trident Digital Specimen Radiography System is a high-resolution imaging tool used in the operating room to capture clear, digital images of tissue samples during breast-conserving surgeries. It allows surgeons to verify in real time that the targeted tissue has been accurately removed, reducing the need for repeat surgeries and minimizing stress for patients. Without a functioning system, surgeons must rely on less immediate methods, potentially delaying confirmation, increasing wait times, and compromising the quality and efficiency of care. Replacing this essential tool is critical to maintaining high standards in breast cancer treatment.
The Future of Care
Revitalizing our Birthing Centre — $22 Million
Chances are, you know someone who was born at NYGH, maybe even yourself or someone in your family. That’s because we’ve been there for over 300,000 births since we opened in 1968, supporting more families along their birthing journey than any other community hospital in Ontario. But it’s time for our aging Labour & Delivery and Post-Partum units to go through their own rebirth. This campaign will completely renovate the units into a reimagined, integrated Birthing Centre for optimal patient comfort and privacy. We’re designing a holistic environment for every family from every community.

A New Long-Term Care Development — $25M
Built through a unique partnership with the Ministry of Long-Term Care and the Ministry of Health, the NYGH Long-Term Care Development aims to house a hub of dedicated health and wellness services for seniors, located on the NYGH campus, right across the street from the hospital. The LTC home will feature all private rooms and private washrooms in a small-scale home-like environment, complemented by medical offices, retail services, and a myriad of clinical and social programs on-site for easy access to residents of the LTC home as well as those living in the community. The facility will be one of the largest new, single-site LTC homes in Canada, with 528 beds.

A New Patient Care Tower
As care becomes more complex and demand for hospital services rises, NYGH must grow to ensure timely, safe, and exceptional care. The New Patient Care Tower will be the largest redevelopment in our 56-year history, delivering purpose-built, future-ready space to support advanced care delivery and innovation. This 11-storey tower will include 317 private rooms for medical, surgical, critical care, and mental health patients; a cutting-edge Emergency Department; modern Surgical Suites; and comprehensive Maternal Health Spaces.
